10 November 2010
The educational charity FILMCLUB will launch a special
'Beat Bullying' film season for Anti-Bullying Week (15-19
November). Members will be encouraged to select from ten titles in
which bullying is a major theme, ranging from 'The Elephant Man',
'American Teen' and 'The Kite Runner' to ' La Belle Et La
Bete' and 'Cinderella'.
Feedback from the scheme's 5300 member schools shows
that film clubs are an extremely effective tool for encouraging
discussion and debate about bullying and other important issues. By
introducing children, through film, to different ideas and cultures
the initiative helps to break down barriers and reduce some
of the prejudices that can lead to bullying.
Teachers have also reported that participation in
FILMCLUB boosts the self esteem of less confident pupils and brings
together children who don't normally mix.
